How can I calculate variable commissions on my cases? 

(hint: The Variable Commission Rate Report)

Beacon out of the box allows you to establish a commission rate for each user and even by physician for each user, and you can read more about paying out commissions here

However, you may encounter situations where variable or non-standard commission rates are used, or to calculate the commission for the distributor and the sales rep based on different rates. If that's the case, you can use the Variable Commission Rate Report! In this article we'll break down what this report has to offer.

The Variable Commission Rate Report provide users with a dashboard that displays the variable commission rates applied to sales and allows them generate a report with user selected commission rates.
 

Available Filters

Rep: This is the rep assigned to the events being reviewed. Use this filter to narrow down the list of event data being reported. 

Manufacturer(s): Filter down which manufacturers inventory you are calculating commissions for. 

Event Date: This will allow you to further filter down the selected events in the report to locate the Events you're looking for. 

Event Status: Filter the list by status to locate which events you want to review. 

Event Type: Use this event type filter to narrow the list of events (case, stocking order, other, etc.)

Manufacturer to Distributor Commission Rate: Use this to set the commission % paid to the distributor so the report will calculate the appropriate commissions for your events. 

Rep Commission Rate: Use this to set the commission % paid to the rep so the report will calculate the appropriate commissions for your events. 

Note: This report calculates the commission rates using the equation "Total Sales x Rate", so you should enter the exact rate that the distributor and rep are paid. If, for instance, the rep's commission is paid out of the distributor commission, then you should consider this when inputting your commission rate selections. 

Reporting

Using the filters above this report will show you the calculated commissions for your events by event and manufacturer for each distributor and representative involved. This allows you to go further than the regular calculated commission rate per user, understanding that sometimes commission is paid out to the distributorship with a fractional portion of the commission going to the representative. 

1. Apply any filters to narrow down the event data being reported

2. Select the Manufacturer to Distributor Commission Rate

3. Select the Rep Commission Rate

4. Click on the purple refresh button at the top of the screen

5. Review the event line items in the report and the calculated commissions

To Export this Data: 

1. Click on the ellipse in on the report table that appears when you hover your cursor over the top of the upper right corner of the report table (not the top of the screen)

2. Select Download Data

3. Select the file type of your download

4. Click the arrow to expand "Advanced Data Options"

5. Select the following settings: 

  • With Visualizations Applied
  • Unformatted
  • Custom # of Rows. Set high enough that all rows of your report will be downloaded to ensure any rows that weren't able to be displayed in the visible tool will still be downloaded.
