How can I make changing locations on lots of inventory easier on myself?
If you are in the habit of using locations to manage your inventory, then you'll want to make your work as efficient as possible. Typically inventory locations are changed on the device detail screen, which can make it a pain to change many locations during the course of business.
That is why it's critical to take advantage of location bulk update options, and even use some crafty strategies in beacon - like container "folders"!
What is a container "folder"?
It's essentially a container that doesn't physically exist, but that you use, like a folder on your computer, to group and organize your inventory. You can add items into this folder to find them easier later, to denote something about them, or to think of like a "bucket"/location.
When inventory needs to be removed from the "folder", it's as easy as clicking "release". And easily select multiple items when adding items to a container "folder". This is much easier than going into each device detail screen to change the location setting.
Key Locations Concepts
Container folders become useful in the context of locations, because of two critical concepts that are worth remembering:
1. When you update the location for a container, it updates the location of all inventory inside.
2. Whenever you transfer inventory you can change the location for all items that are part of a transfer.
So how should I do it?
If you're a distributor and you're managing multiple locations, such as "office warehouse", "trunk stock", "home office", etc. Consider creating a container that corresponds with each location you manage.
You can think of these containers like "folders" for your inventory, one "folder" per location. You can add any devices to the corresponding Location Container and they will automatically receive the updated location. Move an item into a different location? Just change which container the item is in.
Remember if you're going to transfer a "folder" container, that all inventory inside will move with it. Transferring is a useful method of updating locations, but it will apply to all items and all containers on the transfer.
