Complete Guide to the VP of Sales Role

Overview

To better support multi-tier corporate sales organization structures, ConnectSx Beacon introduces the VP of Sales role. This management-tier role sits directly above the Regional Manager in the user hierarchy. It replicates core regional oversight capabilities but scales them to look after Regional Managers instead of managing day-to-day Sales Representatives directly.

Team Purview & Hierarchical Management

The VP of Sales operates within a validated three-tier relationship chain.

  • Assigned Regional Managers: A VP of Sales has direct management purview over assigned Regional Managers. Each Regional Manager can be assigned to only one VP coordinator.

  • Downstream Distributors and Sales Representatives: By extension, the VP has automatic purview over all the Sales Representatives who report to their managed Regional Managers.

  • The Directory Hierarchy: The system Directory lists and groups team structures visually to display the full VP Sales pipeline.

What a VP of Sales Can View

Users assigned to the VP of Sales role possess extensive downward visibility across their entire sales group:

  • Subordinate Groupings: VPs can open their subordinate lists to view assigned RMs grouped directly with their reporting Sales Reps across both downstream levels.

  • Downstream Performance Data: VPs can view and track comprehensive team activity, including all field inventory, scheduled surgical events, active user assignments, and forward stocking locations.

  • Team Revenue & Commissions: VPs have access to open downstream commission views to audit team revenue, tracking specific commission rates, calculated totals, and transactional payment statuses.

  • Looker Analytics Support: All corporate Looker Explores utilize integrated coordinator filters. Selecting a VP's ID automatically aggregates and displays analytics for all linked RMs and subordinate Sales Reps.

What a VP of Sales Can Edit

The VP of Sales replicates the high-level request, transfer, and operational permissions assigned to a Regional Manager. Within their downstream chain, they can:

  • Manage Regional Manager Assignments: From the VP detail page, a VP can utilize the search-and-add user UI to assign active Regional Managers to their team. The selection dropdown automatically filters out any RM who is already assigned to a different VP.

  • Initiate and Approve Transfers: VPs can initiate new inventory transfers or approve pending transfers on behalf of their subordinate Regional Managers and Sales Reps.

  • Manage Inventory Requests: VPs can create, initiate, and manage inventory requests throughout their downstream sales group.

  • Execute on Behalf of Subordinates: When generating a transfer or staging an event, the VP can seamlessly assign a subordinate RM or Sales Rep as the active custodian or representative.

Core System Restrictions & Guardrails

To keep role boundaries and corporate accounting clean, the VP of Sales role is bound by strict functional limitations:

  • No Sales User Selection: VPs manage Regional Managers only. Sales Representatives cannot be selected or added directly to a VP’s primary management list.

  • No Direct Inventory Custody: A VP of Sales cannot physically hold inventory. They are strictly filtered out and excluded from selection fields as an inventory sender or recipient.

  • No Direct Case Assignment: A VP of Sales cannot be personally assigned to cover a surgical event as the primary representative.

Covering a Case Personally (Paired Account Pattern)

If a corporate VP of Sales needs to personally step in and cover a surgical case or hold temporary inventory, they must follow the system's recommended Paired Account Pattern:

  1. The user maintains their standard Beacon Account profile ([email protected]) to log into the Console for high-level overview, reporting, and team management.

  2. A separate, custodian-only account is configured using an email alias pattern (such as [email protected]).

  3. The user logs into this secondary +custodian account specifically to accept transfers or absorb surgical case assignments.
