Does Beacon automatically use FIFO or LIFO when selecting inventory?

The short answer is no. Beacon, except in specific circumstances, does not automatically select inventory for you. This article will break down how to manage the age of your inventory and when Auto-Selection is available.

Managing Item Age

Item age in Beacon is calculated using the "Created Date" and the Inventory Aging Report will help you to keep track of inventory as it ages through its life cycle.

This report will let you filter your inventory using common data points and view how old inventory is to help you make distribution decisions.

If you want to use FIFO, then identify your oldest inventory in this report and prioritize shipping that inventory out first, or the newest inventory for LIFO.

Automatic Item Selection

There are a couple of instances where Beacon will automatically select inventory for you:

BOM Automatic Restocking:

When the system is using a Bill of Materials to restock a container to Par,  you may select FIFO or LIFO to dictate how the system will select inventory.
