Creating the Best Event Data

As with most things in Beacon, the value you are able to derive from your Beacon account starts with your data, which starts with you.

As you create your Events, or you train your users on creating their Events, think about how you will want to search for and locate them.

Investigate your own process and your users' processes, and ask yourself questions about how they will use Beacon.

Ask your users what data they anchor on in their daily life: Is it the Patient ID? The Physician name? The PO #? Often there are key pieces of information that users already use to anchor on in their workflows.

Do your users group their events in buckets by Facility or Physician? Better make sure those are updated perfectly in your directory and are assigned correctly.

Are there particular things you want to search by that Beacon doesn't collect? Make sure they are included in the Event Name.

Do you often need to search by Patient Identifier? Make sure every Event has the Patient ID entered.

The bottom line is the work you do up front to ensure your data is the right data you need and that it is entered correctly, determines how successful you will be in utilizing your data in the future.
