How to create a location from a Facility in Beacon

You can now create a location directly from the Facility page. The new Location generated via this process inherits the facility’s data at the moment of creation, but changes made to the Location or Facility afterward will not automatically sync, as there is no active permanent link between the two records in this version.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Navigate to the Facility Detail Page

  1. Log into the ConnectSx Console and find the facility you wish to use.

  2. Open the facility's detail page. If you have the required Create Location permissions, you will see a prominent Create Location button in the actions layout.

Step 2: Proximity & Duplicate Check

When you click Create Location, the system runs an automated proximity check against its database:

  • No Nearby Matches: If no existing Location is found within a 100-meter threshold of the Facility's GPS coordinates, the creation modal opens immediately.

  • Potential Duplicate Warning: If an existing Location is detected within 100 meters, an alert will pop up stating: “A Location already exists near this Facility: [Location Name]. Create anyway?”.

    • Click Confirm to proceed if you deliberately need an additional separate location.

    • Click Cancel to abort and return safely to the Facility detail page.

Step 3: Review Pre-Populated Fields in the Modal

The creation modal will overlay on your screen, pre-loading information from the facility record:

  • Location Name: Auto-populates with the Facility's name.

  • Address Lines: Pre-fills the street address, city, state, and zip code.

  • GPS Coordinates: Copies latitude and longitude data seamlessly (if available on the facility).

Note: Every pre-populated field remains fully editable. You can adjust the text or coordinates freely before finalizing.

Step 4: Verify with Google Places (Recommended)

To ensure optimal compliance and scanner precision:

  1. Click directly into the pre-populated address field.

  2. Select the Google-verified address from the type-ahead dropdown suggestion.

  3. Failing to click and select from the Google Places dropdown means the location record will save as an unverified address.

Step 5: Save and Finalize

  1. Review your data and click Save.

  2. A brief confirmation banner will notify you: “Location created: [Location Name].”.

  3. The modal closes, and you will remain on the Facility detail page.

Edge Cases & Important Behaviors

  • Missing Facility GPS Data: If the source facility doesn't have GPS coordinates, the new Location will be generated without them. You can add coordinates manually to the Location record later if needed.

  • Missing Facility Address: If a facility lacks address details, those fields will open blank in the modal for you to fill out manually.

  • Visibility After Creation: Because there is no back-link to display this standalone location on the facility's detail page, the newly created record will immediately appear instead within your general Location List and become selectable inside Scan to Move workflows.

  • One-to-Many Potential: A single facility can serve as the baseline context to generate zero, one, or multiple independent Locations depending on your physical scanning architecture needs.
